Art Therapy & Counselling
What is Art Therapy?
Transpersonal Art Therapy is a specialised holistic practice that utilises creative expression to facilitate healing and overall wellbeing.
When there are no words, art therapy can connect you to experiences that may be too difficult to describe. Art therapy engages the mind, body, and spirit in ways that are distinct from verbal articulation. Sensory, perceptual, kinesthetic and symbolic opportunities invite alternative modes of receptive and expressive communication, which can overcome the limitations of language.
Art therapy is evidence-based in the positive and rewarding effects on giving individuals a space for relaxation, improving emotional regulation, reducing anxiety, and increasing social connection. Art therapy can be used to support treatment for a wide range of physical and mental health conditions.
Transpersonal?
You may be thinking- “What does transpersonal mean?”
With Latin etymology, trans means “beyond” and persona refers to the masks worn in theatre. Directly translated means “Beyond the Mask”. This concept is likened to the characters people played in theatre, thereby revealing the role ‘played‘, consequently suggesting another perhaps hidden aspect of the individual that can be revealed and explored.
Transpersonal art therapy is a recognised form of therapy that uses art to express our innermost thoughts, emotions and feelings. It merges psychology, creativity and spirituality in a counselling context.
